Additional Info

Advanced vertical caving

This is an intermediate-level caving experience. We consistently use ropes to take us down and up. If you want to see everything, we need to spend the night inside the cave, which is about 7.5 km long and 332 meters deep. Together with Greftsprekka cave, this cave constitutes a system of 13,5 km long underground tunnels, but we still have to find the connection between them.

Description

Meeting point is Gildeskål. We start by going up a mountainside and rappell down into the depths. During the first 150 meters we follow a glacier, just before we land on solid ground. From there, we continue with several small rappels from 5 to 55 meters. We then set up the first camp, where we take a lunch break, and share the experiences and impressions. After lunch we continue our journey, but all depends on how far we want to go and what we want to see.

It is said that these caves hide Norway’s most inaccessible place, deep inside its dark kingdom. There are indications that parts of the cave may be as old as 2.5 million years! The environment is very fragile, with large stalactites and stalagmites and fantastic formations carved by the water that once pushed through this mountain. There are not many people in the world that have been down here, and the three-dimensional spaghetti hallways need to be navigated with the help of a map and compass. We guarantee an unforgettable, once-in-a-lifetime experience. Last but not least, we also take professional caving pictures.

Safety

At Beyond Limits, we always focus on safety during our trips. We are using a local and competent guide, which is well known in the cave. Also, we have a carefully designed internal procedure with checklists and risk analyzes that we go through before entering the cave.
